Location: Linden, NJ Area
Position Summary:
The Spear Group has an excellent opportunity for an experienced capital project construction SITE SAFETY PROFESSIONAL to lead a contractor construction safety team at our Linden, NJ area site. This is an owner's side / stakeholder side, high-profile position with multiple large and small capital projects running in parallel at the owner's construction site. This is an onsite position, no exceptions.
In addition to the responsibilities and qualifications outlined below, the candidate must be capable of leading a team of approximately six safety professionals and interfacing regularly with construction management and construction safety leads from EPCMs working on site. This role requires a candidate that serves as a leader that coaches, mentors and counsels to support, develop and expand the safety culture at our project sites. The ideal candidate will effectively promote a safety culture and mindset, not just push compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
The role of Site Safety Lead is to manage the Owner's side safety program to promote a zero harm environment at projects on their site.
Primary Responsibilities will include, but not limited to, the following:
Implement and administer safety programs at project location. Work with the construction management and engineering project team members and field personnel to coach, counsel and mentor on safety program elements and hazard identification.Coach and mentor safety team members with varying degrees of experience while providing opportunities to develop and grow additional skillsets. Coordinate site safety activities with project managers Lead JSA/SPA program on each of the projects at the site, & review permitting processes on projects Liaison to the owner's side's safety and environmental in-house department on site where projects are underwayFormulation & administration of zero harm centered safety program (Tap-In, Near Miss, First Aid Reporting) at the siteMonitor and participate in weekly Site Safety meetings for each projectTimely reporting and timely incident investigation resolution. Ensure that all corrective actions are closed out by target dates. Review injury/incident reports for completenessEnsure applicable company and regulatory SHE requirements are being metOversee safety incentive program for each projectWeekly documented job site safety inspectionsParticipate in safety reviews at pre-bid and pre-award meetingsReview Logistics plans for each project for completeness and safetyBe a mentor for all project team members on safety. Work with the contractor management and supervisors to raise their safety awareness and hazard recognition. Participate and collaborate in developing Project Execution plans and SHE plans for new projects. Participate and maintain positive and effective Union Leadership relationsParticipate in Tier meetingsReporting of Leading/Lagging indicators as well as KPIs for site projectsEnsure contractors adhere to Owner's side company standards and OSHA standards thoroughly and continuously Support and participate in onboarding processes including site orientation, training, pre/post bid alignment and safety cultureOversee high-risk work and cut sheet programsCoordinate weekly site project safety walks and monitor CAPA closuresOversee and participate in a management of positive change philosophy Participate in peer auditsOnboarding of new CMs and Safety PersonnelOversight Day to Day SafetyIncident InvestigationsContractor Evaluation Reviews
Required Experience and Education:
10 Years of Construction Safety Management Experience preferred4-year Degree or demonstrated work experiencePeople leader experienceExperience in Pharma industry preferred, but not requiredExperience or familiarity with Qualification and Commissioning recommendedAbility to promote and maintain a positive safety culture.Ability to lead a team of safety professionals at varying levels in their careersUnderstanding of OSHA, State and Local construction safety regulations Safety Program/Project leadership experienceOSHA 510 required; OSHA 500 strongly recommendedExcellent communication and presentation skills at all levels from upper leadership to field levelExperience coaching and counseling and mentoring on safety and hazard recognitionAbility to present owners safety expectations at pre-bid and bid meetings.Proven history of developing and maintaining positive relations with owner's site leadership, site safety organization, project management, construction management companies, workforce and labor leadershipComputer proficiency i.e.) Microsoft Office Data analysisRoot Cause and CAPA development and mitigationIncident Investigation and Root Cause Analysis Skills Proven organizational skillsAbility to manage change safely
